Methodology · Graduation
Progress at Alliance is earned and measurable. Here's exactly how stripes and belts work — for a four-year-old and for a future black belt.
Ages 3–15
A colored-belt system built on three types of stripes. Progression varies by belt and age group, from white through green, with instructors tracking attendance and behaviour throughout.
Tied directly to class attendance. Show up, train, progress.
Also called "overlapping stripes" — they sit over the white stripes and count class attendance following CBJJ/IBJJF rules. In total each student earns 12 stripes per belt.
Placed on the opposite side of the belt, at the instructor's discretion, for behaviour, relationship, organisation and commitment — and can be granted or withdrawn at any time.

Based on attendance stripes (4 white + 4 red = 8 stripes per belt). Colored stripes (behaviour) remain at the instructor's discretion. Estimate only — official promotion is decided by the professor.

The Belt Exam
You already know the importance of following the Alliance Jiu Jitsu methodology at your academy and, as a very considerable part of the methodology, is the BELT EXAM.
The purpose of the exam is to evaluate both the student's ability to understand the methodology and to measure the teacher's skills as a transmitting agent of technical knowledge.
Standardizing the student's assessment through the belt exam will also help in the motivational issue of the student, who will always have a concrete goal in mind within his or her jiu jitsu journey.
By applying the stripes to the belt and applying the exam you can impact the entire Jiu Jitsu community, because Alliance Jiu Jitsu students will be an example of technical excellence.
